The University of Calabar came into being on the strength of Decree No. 80 of 1979. Starting academic work in 1975, the University has the object of encouraging the advancement of learning and holding out to all persons without distinction to race, creed, sex, political or religious affiliation, the opportunity of acquiring a higher and liberal education. The University seeks to promote courses of Instruction and other facilities for the pursuit of learning mall its branches and to make those facilities available on appropriate terms to such persons that are equipped to benefit from them.

Job Title: University Librarian

Location: Calabar, Cross River

Job Summary

• The Librarian is a Principal Officer in charge of Library affairs and responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the administration of the University Library.
• The candidate should be a Chartered Librarian of the Professional Association.

Requirements

• Candidates should have a good honours Degree and higher Degrees MLS, Ph.D. in Library, Archival and Information Science.
• Should have been at least a Senior Librarian.
• They should possess at least 15 years post qualification cognate experience in a Library of an academic institution and must have served as Head of several major Divisions in such a Library.
• They should also be conversant with modern trends in Library Automation.
• A significant number of publications in national and international reputable journals showing evidence of active research will be an added advantage.
• Applicant must be at least 40 years and must NOT be more than 60 years as at the time of assumption of duty.

Tenure

• This is a tenured appointment of a single term of Five (5) years in accordance with the new Federal Government of Nigeria circular.

Salary Grade
CONTISS 15.
