Albarka Health Spring Foundation (AHSF) is a non-governmental organization dully registered with Nigerian government through Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC/IT NO: 91613). Existing since October 2016, AHSF focuses on improving the quality of life of vulnerable population across communities in Northeast Nigeria. AHSF operates both in emergency and developmental context and have its program principally rooted in identifying gaps that affects population or increases vulnerability of population and bridging those gaps through resource base planning and implementation.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Security Guard

Location: Sokoto
Employment Type: Contract
Number of Openings: 2 Openings
Expected Start Date: As soon as possible

Program Objective

  • The Humanitarian Cash Transfer in Rabah and Goronyo LGA, Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria Project is tailored to potentially enable eligible households improve the nutritional status of children affected by Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in Rabah and Goronyo LGA.
  • Strengthening financial security of vulnerable households through cash transfers and associated monitoring mechanisms have the potential to improve dietary diversity, increase recovery from SAM, improve access to integrated health and nutrition services, hygiene, and income generation.

Job Summary

  • In close coordination with the Project Coordinator, s/he helps to ensure the safety and security of staff and visitors to the area of assignment; program operations are conducted within Safety & Security guidelines, and risks are managed if not reduced or eliminated.

Specific Areas of Work will include:

  • Security Situation Monitoring: Assess and monitor security situation (i.e. threats, weather condition) through coordination with other actors and secondary information, and determine appropriate security threat level at all times.
  • Daily Safety & Security Management Lead staff in preparedness for and effective execution of Safety & Security Management plans based on security level and authorized instructions including
  • Maintaining an overview of all visitors to the office, including contact information and residence
  • Checking on suitability of buildings including the office including health and safety requirements of the office, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits and emergency exits. Ensure recommendations are implemented.
  • Situation and Incident Reporting Support the Project Coordinator in the event of a situation/incident including but not limited to near misses, actual or attempted: threat of or physical attack or assault; theft; vehicle accident; arrest; threat of harm to staff or property, injury, and or death. Support in the collection of information and documentation for incident reports, which are to be submitted to the Executive Director and line manager within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Communicating with impact – Communicates clearly and confidently with others to engage and influence; promotes dialogue and ensures timely and appropriate messages, building confidence and trust.
  • Networking – Builds and uses sustainable relationships and networks to support the work of Albarka Health Spring Foundation.

Qualifications and Experience 

  • At least Senior Secondary School level
  • Previous experience in security situations for large groups of staff
  • Can work well in highly stressful situations
  • Conscientious and thorough when following processes
  • Good communicator with excellent written and spoken English
  • Computer literate and adept in the use of MS Office software, particularly Excel for the management of trackers a contact lists
  • Highly organized, with good attention to detail and developed ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines and organize work
  • Team player, good at building cross-team relationships
  • Previous experience of working for an NGO is desirable.
