We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: School Nurse

Location: Abuja
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Overview

  • The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of students and staff within the school environment.
  • The role involves providing basic medical care, responding to health emergencies, managing student health records, and supporting the implementation of school health policies.
  • The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment while working closely with school administrators, teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
Student Health Care:

  • Provide first aid and basic medical care to students and staff when needed.
  • Assess and manage minor illnesses and injuries occurring during school hours.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies.

Health Monitoring and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students and staff.
  • Monitor students with chronic health conditions and ensure proper care plans are followed.
  • Track immunisation records and other health-related documentation.

Medication Administration:

  • Administer prescribed medications to students according to medical guidelines and parental consent.
  • Maintain proper documentation of medication administration.

Health Education and Awareness:

  • Promote health awareness among students and staff.
  • Guide hygiene, nutrition, and healthy living practices.
  • Support school health programs and initiatives.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Communicate with parents or guardians regarding student health concerns when necessary.
  • Work closely with school administrators and teachers to address health-related issues.
  • Liaise with healthcare providers when additional medical care is required.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure the school clinic is well-equipped and maintained.
  • Monitor compliance with school health and safety policies.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning.

Performance Indicators
The School Nurse will be evaluated based on:

  • Effectiveness in managing student health needs
  • Accuracy and confidentiality of medical records
  • Response time and effectiveness during health emergencies
  • Contribution to a safe and healthy school environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Registered Nurse qualification (RN) from a recognised institution.
  • Valid nursing license or registration with the appropriate Nursing Council.
  • Minimum of 3 – 10 years of nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, or community health setting.

Additional Training (Preferred):

  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Training in pediatric care or school health services.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with school staff.

  • School clinic or health office within an educational institution
