Job Title: Safety Officer

Location: Ibeju Lekki, Lagos

Job Overview

• The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all terminal activities are carried out in a safe and healthy working environment.
• The role involves monitoring daily operations, identifying hazards, ensuring compliance with safety policies and regulatory requirements, and promoting a strong safety culture across the terminal.
• The Safety Officer works closely with employees, contractors, and management to prevent accidents, respond to safety concerns, and support continuous improvement in workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Patrol cargo areas to identify unsafe acts or conditions (e.g., improper stacking of Dangerous Goods, faulty crane operations)
• Ensure compliance with international and national maritime safety frameworks
• Verify proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintenance of safety/rescue equipment
• Conduct routine safety inductions, toolbox talks, and emergency drills for port workers and stevedores
• Monitor workplace safety practices and report hazards promptly
• Investigate incidents and accidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
• Support emergency response procedures and readiness
• Prepare accurate and timely safety reports
• Promote employee safety awareness and engagement

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant discipline
• Field of Study: Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Management, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, or related field
• Experience: 0–3 years in safety or HSE-related roles

Salary
N150,000 – N200,000 / month.
