Job Title: Reach Stacker / Empty Handler Operator

Purpose of the Role

• The Reach Stacker / Empty Handler Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating yard equipment to handle containers for both vessel and landside operations.
• This role ensures that all loading, unloading, shifting, and housekeeping activities in the yard are executed following operational plans and strict safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence:

• Operate Reach Stacker / Empty Handler for receiving, loading, moving, and housekeeping of containers as per work order queues.
• Execute container handling for vessel operations and landside customer deliveries with high accuracy and safety.
• Perform pre-shift equipment inspections to ensure proper functioning.
• Identify, escalate, and report any equipment malfunction, safety issue, or damage before, during, or after operations.
• Ensure compliance with international safety standards and company operating procedures.

Safety & Compliance:

• Follow all safety instructions to avoid injuries, equipment damage, or property loss.
• Immediately report incidents to the HSE department and Shift Manager.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment following 5S principles.

Coordination & Communication:

• Collaborate closely with internal teams: Planning, Technical, Safety & Security.
• Interact with vessel agents and customers when required.
• Support seamless yard operations through clear communication and teamwork.

Required Qualifications & Experience
Education:

• Minimum of an SSCE / WAEC certification.

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in terminal operations or similar heavy equipment operation environment.
• Prior experience as a Reach Stacker or Empty Handler operator is strongly preferred.
• Proven adherence to safe working practices and operational procedures.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong understanding of container terminal operations (hazardous cargo, special cargo, break‑bulk handling).
• Excellent depth perception and hand‑eye coordination.
• Ability to work at heights; no acrophobia.
• Basic English communication skills (oral and written).
• Working knowledge of Pidgin English.
• Experience working in a multicultural environment is an advantage.
• Valid and current driving licence.
• Clean safety record with no previous breaches or warnings.
