Job Title: Program Assistant – GSK/STC Immunization Accelerator Project

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reporting to: Project Coordinator/Lead Investigator
Duration: 12 Month

Background

  • The GSK/STC Immunization accelerator Project is designed to reduce the prevalence of zero-dose (ZD) children in Lagos State, using a Positive Deviance (PD) approach. The project aims to identify key enablers that motivate caregivers to fully immunize their children and use these insights to implement a community-driven, mentor-based intervention that improves vaccine uptake.
  • To achieve this, the project requires a Program Assistant to support its implementation, ensuring seamless coordination of activities, stakeholder engagement, data collection, and documentation.

Job Description

  • The Program Assistant will provide technical, logistical, and administrative support for the implementation of the project. The role involves field coordination, community mobilization, stakeholder liaison, data management, and reporting to ensure the project meets its objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Program Coordination & Implementation – Support planning, scheduling, and execution of project activities, ensuring smooth delivery of PLA sessions and home visits.
  • Community Engagement – Mobilize and liaise with community leaders, religious bodies, and caregivers to foster local buy-in and participation.
  • Stakeholder Liaison – Collaborate with NERICC, SERICC, PHCs, RI officers, and local authorities to align project activities with national immunization goals.
  • Selection & Support of Immunization Mentors (IMs) – Assist in identifying, training, and supervising IMs to deliver community-based interventions.
  • Data Collection & Monitoring – Support real-time data collection, entry, and analysis using digital tools to track immunization progress.
  • Caregiver Enrollment & Follow-up – Identify and engage caregivers of zero-dose children through community outreach and structured mentorship.
  • Reporting & Documentation – Maintain accurate records of project activities, prepare reports, and document best practices and lessons learned.
  • Logistics & Administrative Support – Coordinate field activities, manage project materials, and ensure smooth execution of interventions.
  • Training & Capacity Building – Support the development and adaptation of training materials for IMs and caregivers, facilitating experience-sharing sessions.
  • Advocacy & Sustainability Efforts – Support efforts to strengthen immunization demand, promote best practices, and advocate for community-led immunization solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or HND in Public Health, Social Sciences, Community Development, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in health programs, immunization, or community-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of Nigeria’s immunization landscape, particularly Routine Immunization (RI), zero-dose  children, and community engagement strategies.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong community mobilization, engagement, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in field data collection, including the use of ODK, KoboToolbox, or similar tools.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, with strong problem-solving skills.

Language & Cultural Competence:

  • Fluency in English and proficiency in Yoruba (preferred) to effectively communicate with local communities.
  • Understanding of cultural and religious dynamics affecting immunization uptake in Lagos State.

Deliverables:

  • Successful selection and training of Immunization Mentors and engagement of caregivers of zero-dose children.
  • Timely and accurate data collection, entry, and reporting on key immunization indicators.
  • Effective coordination of PLA sessions, home visits, and virtual engagements.
  • Monthly and quarterly project reports detailing progress, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Documentation of best practices and lessons learned from the project for knowledge-sharing.
