Job Title: Production Manager

About the Role

• Tabs Atelier is seeking an experienced, highly organised and hands-on Production Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of its fashion production operations.
• The Production Manager will be responsible for ensuring that garments move efficiently from design and production planning through cutting, sewing, fitting, finishing and final quality control, while meeting the brand’s required standards for quality, fit, finishing and delivery timelines.
• This is a key operational role requiring someone who understands fashion production practically and can effectively coordinate tailors, cutters, finishers and other production personnel.
• The successful candidate must be able to take ownership of the production floor, anticipate potential delays, resolve production challenges quickly and ensure that customer orders and collections are delivered to the required standard and within agreed timelines.
• This is a live-in position, and suitable accommodation will be provided by the company.

Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Coordination:

• Plan and coordinate daily, weekly and monthly production activities.
• Translate confirmed orders and approved designs into clear production schedules.
• Allocate production assignments to tailors, cutters, finishers and other production personnel based on competence, capacity and deadlines.
• Establish realistic production timelines for individual garments, customer orders and collections.
• Monitor every stage of production to ensure work progresses according to schedule.
• Prioritise urgent orders without unnecessarily disrupting existing production commitments.
• Maintain an up-to-date production schedule showing jobs in progress, completed jobs and pending orders.
• Identify potential production delays early and take corrective action.
• Ensure production capacity is properly utilised and minimise avoidable downtime.

Production Floor Management:

• Take responsibility for the effective day-to-day running of the production floor.
• Coordinate and supervise all production personnel.
• Ensure production staff understand assigned tasks, specifications and deadlines.
• Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity and general work discipline within the production team.
• Ensure appropriate workflow between cutting, sewing, fitting, alterations, finishing and quality control.
• Identify production bottlenecks and resolve them promptly.
• Ensure the production environment remains organised and conducive to efficient work.
• Escalate significant production or staffing issues to Management when necessary.

Garment Construction & Technical Supervision:

• Review designs and production requirements before commencement of work.
• Ensure garments are constructed according to approved designs, measurements and specifications.
• Provide practical guidance to production personnel where technical clarification is required.
• Identify construction issues that may affect fit, finishing or production feasibility.
• Ensure measurements are accurately interpreted and followed.
• Monitor alterations and corrections to ensure identified issues are properly resolved.
• Work closely with relevant design and client-facing personnel where clarification is required before or during production.

Quality Control & Assurance:
The Production Manager will have primary responsibility for maintaining Tabs Atelier’s production quality standards.

Responsibilities include:

• Conduct quality checks at critical stages of production rather than waiting until garments are completed.
• Inspect completed garments before they are approved for customer delivery.
• Ensure garments meet approved standards for measurement, fit, stitching, finishing and overall appearance.
• Check seams, hems, zips, buttons, embellishments, lining and other finishing details.
• Identify defects and ensure corrections are completed promptly.
• Prevent defective or unfinished garments from being released to customers.
• Investigate recurring quality issues and implement corrective measures.
• Reduce customer complaints arising from preventable production errors.
• Promote a strong culture of quality and attention to detail across the production team.

Order & Delivery Management:

• Track customer orders from production commencement through completion.
• Ensure agreed production and delivery dates are clearly communicated internally.
• Monitor upcoming deadlines and prioritise production accordingly.
• Coordinate fittings, alterations and final corrections where applicable.
• Ensure completed garments are ready ahead of agreed collection or delivery dates wherever possible.
• Immediately flag any risk to an agreed delivery date.
• Maintain accurate records of completed, outstanding and delayed orders.
• Work closely with Client Service and relevant team members to ensure accurate production updates are available.

Fabric, Materials & Inventory Control:

• Ensure required fabrics, trims and production materials are available before work begins.
• Verify materials issued for individual jobs.
• Monitor the utilisation of fabrics and production materials.
• Minimise avoidable fabric wastage, damage and misuse.
• Maintain appropriate records of materials issued to production.
• Identify low-stock production materials and communicate replenishment requirements promptly.
• Ensure unused fabrics, offcuts and materials are appropriately accounted for and stored.
• Support periodic inventory counts relating to production materials.

Cost & Waste Management:

• Monitor production processes with attention to cost efficiency.
• Reduce avoidable rework, fabric wastage and production errors.
• Identify practices that unnecessarily increase production costs.
• Ensure production resources are used responsibly.
• Monitor the causes of rejected or repeated work and recommend corrective action.
• Support Management with information required to understand the cost and efficiency of production.

Production Team Management:

• Supervise tailors, cutters, finishers and other production personnel.
• Set clear daily and weekly expectations for the production team.
• Monitor individual productivity and quality of work.
• Provide appropriate feedback, guidance and correction.
• Identify performance or skill gaps within the production team.
• Recommend training or development where necessary.
• Support the onboarding and practical assessment of new production personnel.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism and respect within the production environment.
• Escalate disciplinary or persistent performance issues appropriately.

Equipment & Workplace Management:

• Ensure production machines, equipment and tools are properly handled.
• Maintain appropriate records of equipment faults and maintenance requirements.
• Ensure faults are reported promptly to minimise production downtime.
• Encourage preventive care and responsible use of production equipment.
• Ensure production areas are properly organised at the end of each work cycle.
• Support adherence to reasonable workplace health and safety standards.

Production Reporting:
The Production Manager will provide Management with clear and accurate information on production performance.

Reports should cover:

• Orders received for production
• Orders currently in production
• Orders completed
• Orders delivered
• Outstanding orders
• Delayed orders and reasons for delay
• Alterations/rework
• Production capacity
• Material shortages
• Quality-control issues
• Staff productivity
• Equipment issues
• Other matters requiring Management attention.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance will be assessed against measurable indicators including:
Production Delivery:

• Percentage of orders completed within agreed production timelines.
• Number of overdue production orders.
• Average production turnaround time.
• Ability to manage urgent and priority orders effectively.

Quality:

• Percentage of garments passing final quality inspection.
• Number of garments requiring avoidable rework.
• Number of production-related customer complaints.
• Accuracy of garment measurements and finishing.

Productivity:

• Production output against planned capacity.
• Productivity of production personnel.
• Effective allocation and utilisation of production resources.
• Reduction in unnecessary production downtime.

Cost & Waste Control:

• Fabric and material wastage.
• Frequency of avoidable production errors.
• Level of rework resulting from production mistakes.
• Responsible utilisation of production resources.

Team Management:

• Attendance and punctuality of production staff.
• Adherence to production schedules.
• Production-floor discipline and organisation.
• Effective resolution and escalation of production issues.

Reporting & Accountability:

• Accuracy of production records.
• Timeliness of production reports.
• Early identification and escalation of potential delays.

Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate should possess:

• HND/B.Sc. or relevant professional/technical qualification in Fashion Design, Garment Production, Clothing Technology, Production Management or a related discipline. Strong practical experience may be considered in place of a specific academic qualification.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant experience in fashion production, garment manufacturing, tailoring operations or a similar production environment.
• Previous experience supervising tailors, cutters, finishers or fashion-production personnel.
• Strong practical understanding of garment construction and production processes.
• Demonstrable experience managing multiple orders and production deadlines.
• Experience in quality control within a fashion or garment-production environment.
• Good understanding of fabrics, measurements, finishing and garment-production requirements.
• Experience within a structured fashion brand will be a strong advantage.

The Ideal Candidate

• Tabs Atelier is looking for someone who does not merely monitor production, but takes ownership of it.
• The ideal candidate should be able to walk onto the production floor and quickly determine:
  • What needs to be produced;
  • Who is responsible for each job;
  • What stage every order has reached;
  • Whether materials are available;
  • Whether production is on schedule;
  • Which orders are at risk of delay;
  • Whether completed garments meet the required standard; and
  • What action is required to keep production moving.
• The successful candidate should be comfortable working closely with artisans while maintaining appropriate standards of discipline, accountability, quality and productivity.

Work Arrangement – Live-In

• This is a full-time, on-site live-in position.
• The successful candidate will be required to reside in the accommodation provided by Tabs Atelier as part of the employment arrangement.
• The live-in arrangement is intended to support the operational requirements of the role and effective oversight of production activities.
• Specific working hours, rest periods, days off and other conditions of employment will be clearly defined in the employment agreement.
• The live-in arrangement should not be interpreted as requiring unrestricted or continuous availability outside agreed working hours.

Remuneration

• Salary N200,000 – N300,000 Net Monthly
