Job Description

  • The PTA supports the Nigeria health system to meet the challenge of COVID-19 and its commitment to ensure rapid and equitable access to safe and efficacious SARS-Cov-2 vaccine.
  • The PTA will liaise and communicate with the Government of Nigeria, MoH, national vaccination stakeholders, private stakeholders such as pharmacy and medical associations, USAID and other donor-supported Implementing Partners, international agencies such as WHO, UNICEF, and provide strategic and technical leadership to support the development and implementation of national efforts to expand equitable community level access to SARS-Cov-2 vaccines.
  • The PTA guides and manages the development of work plans in line with the USAID COVID-19 response objectives and Nigeria COVID-19 vaccination goals, establishes a team of relevant specialists/consultant, and manages the implementation of work plans, deliverables, and results.
  • The PTA works closely with all MTaPS COVID-19, GHSA, and country projects, Technical Strategy Leads, and Portfolio Managers to identify opportunities to use new and existing global and MTaPS-developed tools, to coordinate technical work, and to ensure that the MTaPS/Nigeria strategies and technical approaches are based on and informed by country-level needs and priorities and most current scientific evidence.
  • The PTA will provide USAID MTaPS COR, Senior Management Team, and USAID/Nigeria Mission with monthly and quarterly progress reports and written technical briefs/updates on technical issues as required.

Education

  • A post-graduate Degree in a Health-related field with specialized training and/or experience relating to pharmaceutical management and services required; physician or pharmacist qualification preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Significant relevant experience in Nigeria’s public and private health systems with experience in pharmaceutical management and private sector pharmaceutical supply systems and services strengthening
  • Demonstrated experience working with Nigeria’s health stakeholders at the Government, private, and community levels
  • Experience with vaccines and immunization programs in Nigeria
  • Understanding and knowledge of COVID-19 response initiatives and implementing partners supported in Nigeria by bilateral agencies, such as USAID, and international agencies, such as World Health Organization, GFATM, UNICEF, and COVAX, required.
  • Demonstrated competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in English are essential.
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically as required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and supervising technical staff.
