The Youth and Women Peacebuilding Foundation (YAWP Foundation) is a Nigerian-based non-profit organisation incorporated in May 2026, dedicated to building lasting peace and empowering vulnerable communities. We focus on youth, women, and other marginalised groups in fragile and conflict-affected areas. Ouroverall goal is to promote sustainable peace, reduce conflict and violence, and empower individuals and communities, especially youth, women, and vulnerable groups, to achieve economic self-reliance and social cohesion through inclusive development and livelihood opportunities.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer (Volunteer)

Location: Plateau

Position Summary

  • The MEL Officer designs, establishes, and maintains user-friendly monitoring and evaluation systems across all youth and women empowerment projects.
  • The role ensures data collected from the field directly informs project adaptations, demonstrates accountability to donor requirements, captures gender-transformative changes, and elevates youth and women’s voices through participatory evaluation techniques.

Core Responsibilities
MEL System Design & Indicator Tracking:

  • Develop project-specific MEL frameworks, indicator tracking tables (ITTs), and logic models tailored to gender equality, social inclusion, and youth development goals.
  • Integrate gender-sensitive and age-disaggregated indicators to track participation, decision-making power, economic empowerment, and protection outcomes.
  • Establish user-friendly data collection tools (digital surveys, focus group guides, baseline/endline tools and KII) using mobile platforms (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK, CommCare).

Field Data Collection & Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee routine monitoring activities, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and timeliness across project locations.
  • Conduct field visits to observe activity implementation, verify attendance logs, and audit data collected by youth/women volunteers or community enumerators.
  • Train project staff and field enumerators on data collection ethics, informed consent, and safeguarding principles when working with young people and vulnerable women.

Accountability & Community Feedback Mechanisms (CFM):

  • Establish and manage safe, confidential, and accessible community feedback and response mechanisms (e.g., feedback boxes, helplines, participatory review sessions).
  • Ensure feedback from young women, adolescent girls, and marginalized youth is systematically analyzed, referred to management, and acted upon.
  • Integrate Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) pathways into routine feedback channels.

Learning, Knowledge Management & Storytelling:

  • Facilitate quarterly learning review sessions with program teams to analyze data, identify bottlenecks, and adapt implementation strategies in real time.
  • Capture qualitative impact using participatory methodologies like Most Significant Change (MSC), outcome harvesting, and digital storytelling/photovoice.
  • Draft comprehensive MEL sections for donor narrative reports, case studies, and policy briefs.

Requirements & Qualifications
Applicants should have:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree / HND in Data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, research skills, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years in evidence-based research, data analysis, project monitoring and evaluation, or a similar role.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and relevant digital tools.
  • Experience working with NGOs, communities, youth, women, or other relevant stakeholders is an advantage.
  • Applicants must demonstrate integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and commitment to safeguarding.

Key Technical Competencies:

  • Methodologies- Gender-sensitive MEL, Participatory Action Research, Most Significant Change (MSC), Outcome Harvesting, Do No Harm.
  • Digital Tools- KoboToolbox / ODK, Power BI / Excel, SPSS or Stata (basic to intermediate), Google Workspace.
  • Frameworks- Logical Frameworks, Theory of Change, SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work), and youth inclusion matrices.
  • Soft Skills- Youth-friendly facilitation, ethical data handling, active listening, cross-cultural sensitivity, report writing.
