We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Men’s Engagement Programme Associate

Location: Cross River
Reports To: Program Officer

Purpose

  • The Men’s Engagement Program Associate will support implementing and coordinating the Men’s Engagement Program in Cross River.
  • The role works closely with the MEP Coordinator and Program Officer (Cross River) to ensure the effective delivery of program activities and the achievement of program objectives.
  • The person is critical in promoting gender equality, preventing gender-based violence, and engaging men in positive behaviours and attitudes towards women and girls.

Duties and Responsibilities
Program Coordination:

  • Educate the community, religious and traditional leaders, participants’ spouses, and their stakeholders to understand and support gender-responsive changes toward women’s empowerment and the potential of women toward stable and peaceful communities.
  • Organize joint dialogue sessions of community stakeholders and MEP facilitators for sensitization and feedback.
  • Work with community leaders and local partners to strengthen community structures to better respond to violence against women through changed attitudes and perceptions on sexual violence and women’s rights.
  • Identify, screen, and select men (refugees and host community) who will participate in the Men’s Engagement Programme.
  • Ensure lessons are delivered from the WfWI Men’s Leadership curriculum according to an established schedule.
  • Provide guidance and support to MEP participants in developing action plans to advocate for peaceful coexistence for individuals and families.
  • Supervise capacity-building training for men to become allies and leaders in women’s inclusion.
  • Coordinate couples’ sessions involving community members where couples jointly develop action plans for improved family economic livelihood.
  • Share challenges, success stories, complex cases, supplemental materials, etc., with Men’s Engagement Program Coordinator and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the Program Officer in Calabar to develop the Men’s Engagement Program (MEP) training schedules.
  • Identify strategies for program sustainability that align with program objectives, community needs, and available resources in communities in Cross River State, and advise the MEPC accordingly.
  • Promote a culture of ownership and accountability among participants and stakeholders in the communities in Cross River State
  • Organize and conduct the orientation of new participants on program rules and goals, WfWi ethics and safeguarding policy.
  • Report all safeguarding concerns during training and community activities to the Social Empowerment Manager and the Safeguarding Focal Point.
  • Provide regular updates to the MEPC regarding the progress of the MEP training and any challenges or issues.
  • Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in advocacy for peaceful coexistence and share relevant information and resources with MEP participants.
  • Review all facilitators’ reports and submit harmonized reports which provide a comprehensive overview of the MEP activities and outcomes.
  • Provide information to participants about other services the organization provides, such as vocational training, business skills training, or numeracy training.
  • Provide information to participants about the services of partner organizations or other community services such as microcredit, legal aid, health care, counselling, etc.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervise contractors and submit assessments to the MEPC for completion while providing necessary support to enable them to meet the set target.
  • Provide guidance, and feedback to facilitators for a clear understanding of their roles, address challenges and improve their skills and knowledge.

Administrative:

  • Ensure the documentation and dissemination of success stories, lessons learned, and best practices from the advocacy efforts of MEP participants.
  • Maintain clear and organized documentation of the facilitators’ reports, MEP documents and related materials for future reference.
  • Provide reports on activities as required and give recommendations, where necessary, for the smooth running of the program
  • Keep an up-to-date inventory of training supplies and monitor usage in the most effective manner.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies or any other related field.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience managing projects in social services, education (preferably with adults), psychology, community development, and women’s issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ending violence against women.
  • Understanding the role of men in ending violence against women.
  • Demonstrated experience working on community development issues.
  • Demonstrated experience working with NGOs, particularly international NGOs, is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in organizing training with and for authorities, community and traditional leaders.
  • A deep understanding of gender issues, including the impact of traditional gender roles and the dynamics of power and privilege, is essential.
  • Awareness of cultural differences and the ability to work sensitively within diverse communities is essential.
  • Ability to advocate for gender equality and challenge harmful social norms is essential to the role.
  • Understanding human rights principles and the ability to apply these principles to program design and implementation is essential.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to personal growth, self-reflection, and continuous learning is valuable in this role.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office suite and Outlook
  • Excellent report writing skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Required oral and written communication skills in English and pidgin language.
