REES Africa (Renewable Energy & Environmental Sustainability for Africa Initiative) is a youth-led non-governmental organisation positioned to redefine lifestyle by creating renewable energy access in the most vulnerable rural & marginalised areas and promoting environmental sustainability through advocacy & actionable projects. We strive for better environmental management, community empowerment, and likelihood improvement.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Member, Board of Directors

Location: Nigeria

Job Description

  • We are looking for active, young, passionate, articulate and dynamic individuals with the same interest and considerable influence within the space between the ages 22- 35 to fill the position below;
  • Ideal individuals must have interest and influence within Project/program management in the development and humanitarian sectors, communications, Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Water-Energy-Nexus, Agriculture, and/or Administration and finances of non-profits.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Board are as follows:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the organisation by setting the organisation’s strategic direction and defining the organisation’s aims and objectives.
  • Promote and develop the organisation in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance in the sector.
  • Actively contribute professional expertise to support the work of the organisation and the achieving of its goals
  • Ensure the organisation’s financial stability through sound administration of the organisation’s resources in line with organisational objectives and by supporting fundraising activities.
  • Act in the best interest of the organisation, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times and safeguard its reputation.
  • Maintain confidentiality about any sensitive/ confidential information received in the course of members’ responsibilities of the organisation.
  • Participate in board meetings (6 per year).
  • Participate in one board committee, based on expertise, and the needs of the organisation or needs of the projects.
  • Cultivate relationships with our corporate and community partners
  • Review strategy and contribute to annual operating plans through constructive inputs.
  • Contribute to the development of policies to guide the organisation towards its strategic goals.
  • Be an ambassador of the organisation in the wider community.

Time Commitment:

  • The time commitment is approximately 5 hours per month.
  • Possible additional time commitment to support committees, according to the Board Member’s availability.
  • Board Members are expected to serve, at least, one 3-year term.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated professional, executive or leadership experience and accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more key functional areas: Project/program management in the development and humanitarian sectors, communications, Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Water-Energy-Nexus, Agriculture, and/or Administration and finances of non-profits.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organisational, and personal skills.
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.
  • Ability to listen and be open to others’ perspectives, ask pertinent questions to help foster mutual understanding, to synthesise and build consensus.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the professionalism and capacity of REES Africa’s beneficiaries and partners.
  • Ability to understand risks, opportunities, and external and internal issues that may affect REES Africa
  • Fluent or excellent communication in English.
  • The Board of Directors’ experience is a plus.

Remuneration

  • Membership of the Board of Directors in REES Africa is voluntary. Therefore, members of the Board of Directors are not remunerated for the work they do for REES Africa (they do not earn salaries, sitting allowances, etc). Only travel and other necessary expenses are reimbursed for meetings held 6 times a year which might be virtual to reduce costs, except where necessary.
