Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF) is a regional non- Governmental Organisation that focuses on the following thematic areas ; Migration, Public Health, Education, Democratic Governance, livelihood, Climate Change and Environment.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Livelihood & Agriculture Officer

Location: Katsina
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

  • The Livelihood & Agriculture Officer supports the planning, implementation, and monitoring of agriculture and livelihood interventions aimed at improving income generation, food security, and resilience among targeted youth, women, and smallholder farmers.
  • The role involves community mobilization, technical training, distribution of agricultural inputs, data collection, and facilitating market-driven and climate-smart solutions.
  • The officer also contributes to proposal writing, concept note development, and resource mobilization efforts to strengthen AYGF’s livelihood portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
Program Design and Implementation:

  • Support the implementation of livelihood and agricultural activities targeting youth, women, and smallholder farmers.
  • Participate in needs assessments, baseline studies, and simple market assessments to guide planning.
  • Oversee the distribution of agricultural inputs, starter kits, and equipment to beneficiaries to enhance productivity and self-reliance.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of demonstration farms, savings groups, and micro-enterprises.
  • Ensure integration of climate-smart agriculture (CSA), regenerative farming, and ecosystem restoration practices across interventions.
  • Contribute to proposal writing, drafting of concept notes, and resource mobilization efforts for livelihood and agriculture initiatives.

Capacity Building &Community Engagement:

  • Facilitate trainings for farmers, youth groups, and pastoralists on sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, and value chains.
  • Support financial literacy, formation of self-help groups, and community-led savings schemes.
  • Mobilize and engage communities, ensuring at least 50% participation of women and youth.
  • Facilitate farmer–pastoralist dialogue to promote peaceful coexistence and equitable resource use.

Partnership & Coordination:

  • Collaborate with relevant government institutions (Agricultural Extension Services, Ministries of Agriculture, Cooperatives) and development partners to strengthen linkages and sustainability.
  • Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, and private-sector actors to enhance value chain connections and market access.
  • Participate in local coordination meetings and joint field visits with partners as required.

Monitoring, Learning, and Reporting:

  • Conduct routine field visits to verify activities, track progress, and collect data using AYGF’s PTMAS system.
  • Prepare field reports, document observations, and escalate operational challenges.
  • Capture success stories, lessons learned, and case studies for internal and donor reporting.
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and final project reports with clear analysis and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience
Required:

  • University degree (BSc or equivalent) in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Agricultural Economics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in livelihood, agriculture, or economic empowerment programming.
  • Proven experience in climate-smart agriculture, agribusiness development, and community-based interventions.
  • Experience engaging smallholder farmers, women, youth, and government stakeholders.
  • Strong proposal writing skills and experience preparing concept notes for donor- funded interventions.
  • Knowledge of resource mobilization processes and donor compliance requirements.
  • Experience working in Northern Nigeria or semi-arid regions (added advantage).

Desired:

  • Advanced degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Hausa and familiarity with Katsina State communities.
  • Experience integrating GESI into livelihood or migration programs.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge in agricultural production, post-harvest management, and market linkages.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and result-based management.
  • Strong organizational and team leadership abilities.
  • Commitment to Gender Equality, Social Inclusion (GESI), and conflict-sensitive approaches.
