Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Location: Warri, Delta

Main Function

• The Kitchen Assistant supports kitchen operations by assisting in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring smooth workflow within the kitchen.
• This role works closely with senior kitchen staff and provides more hands-on support than entry-level assistants, ensuring meals are prepared efficiently and hygiene standards are maintained.
• The ideal candidate must be reliable, organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Responsibilities
Food Preparation Support:

• Assist in preparing ingredients such as washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning food items.
• Support the preparation of basic meals under the supervision of chefs.
• Assist in preparing mise en place for daily kitchen operations.
• Ensure food items are handled safely and hygienically.

Kitchen Operations Assistance:

• Support chefs during food production and service periods.
• Assist in plating and serving food as directed.
• Ensure timely support during peak service hours.
• Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and correctly.

Kitchen Hygiene & Safety:

• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Follow food safety and hygiene standards at all times.
• Dispose of waste properly and keep waste areas clean.
• Report safety hazards, spills, or equipment issues promptly.

Inventory & Stock Support:

• Assist in receiving food supplies and checking quality.
• Help with proper storage of food items to prevent spoilage.
• Support stock rotation using FIFO principles.
• Inform supervisors of low-stock items when observed.

Teamwork & Support:

• Work closely with chefs, kitchen assistants, and stewards.
• Support team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
• Follow instructions from senior kitchen staff and supervisors.
• Attend briefings and training sessions when required.

Experience / Qualification

• Minimum of SSCE.
• 1 – 3 years experience as a Kitchen Assistant or similar role.
• Experience working in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality environment is an advantage.
• Basic understanding of kitchen operations and hygiene standards.

• Basic food handling and preparation skills.
• Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and safety practices.
• Ability to work under pressure during busy periods.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately.
