The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Summary

  • The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week)
  • Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

  • Travel Required: 25% or less
  • Job holder will be expected to travel to visit law enforcement partners, operations of responsibilities, and training sites.

Duties

  • Under the supervision of the DEA Attaché, the position will serve as an additional investigator to DEA investigators.
  • The incumbent will serve as a liaison with all levels of authorities in the Government of Nigeria, other law enforcement and prosecuting authorities; as well as other DEA domestic and foreign offices.

Qualifications and Evaluations

  • Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in the fields of investigation, criminal justice, law enforcement, fraud/loss prevention, and security work is required.
  • Job Knowledge: Expertise in all of the following: Nigerian government documentation/procedures, criminal law/procedure code, Narcotic investigation, methods of obtaining evidence within Nigerian Law is required.
  • Education Requirements: Two years of College / University studies is required.
  • Evaluations: These may be tested. Applicants MUST address ALL language proficiency requirements to be considered.
  • Language:  Fluency in speaking/writing/reading English is required. Fluency in Speaking any of the three major languages: Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa, is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to develop/maintain and liaise with law enforcement and political contacts;
  • Be able to execute initiatives and investigative duties, report writing is required.
  • Interpersonal skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Basic math skills is required.

Agency Benefits:

  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
