Sisters Against HIV and Cancer Initiative (SACHI) is a community based organization that promotes and create an enabling environment, which supports Health and well-being of communities we serve. We have worked consistently with Key affected Populations, Women, Orphans and Vulnerable Children, adolescent young girls, Youths, stakeholders and General Populations in Delta State with evidence of successes through community health and awareness education, referrals, linkages for uptake of health care and support services and entrenchment of peaceful value.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Gender Based Violence (GBV) Officer

Location: Ughelli North, Delta
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: The position reports to the Project Coordinator

Job Summary

  • The GBV Officer will be responsible for the timely and quality delivery of field level activities with technical support from the Project Coordinator.
  • She/he will manage the team there and ensure the smooth running of program in close coordination with other GBV/Protection actors.
  • She/he will ensure that survivor centered approach is adhered to and GBV survivors and other vulnerable FSWs, women and girls receive prompt and comprehensive services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee case management including follow up on referrals and action plans, and support services provided to GBV survivors, ensuring that the survivors receive the minimum package
  • Work closely with the project coordinator to Initiate planning for longer-term GBV prevention and response activities, including referral pathway and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain, monitor and measure GBV project implementation and contribute to effective information management on GBV survivors, adhering to the national guidance on case management of survivors and the SOPs
  • Closely work with case managers, outreach workers, CTs, CMs etc to ensure that best practices are respected and international standards are met in responding and preventing GBV
  • Participate in capacity building initiatives for staff, partners and other stakeholders to ensure quality and comprehensive delivery of project activities
  • Develop plans and activities in line with project.
  • Facilitate the setting up and functional safe spaces for FSWs, women and girls and supervise all safe space activities and community outreaches.
  • Conduct monitoring of program activities and ensure standards are followed.
  • Oversee the case management of the program and supervise case managers to implement effectively
  • Support staff to identify and link vulnerable FSWs to protection actors and other service providers based on need to access support and care
  • Overall management of field based activities.
  • Lead in implementation of the GBV service provision package of care and across the continuum of GBV case management to ensure that SACHI gender equality targets are being achieved across the states where projects are being implemented.
  • Work with monitoring and evaluation teams to analyse and report on indicators, measuring the outcomes and impact of interventions.
  • Document processes and outcomes for integrating gender into programs
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports, field visit reports, training reports and contribute to the preparation of quality monthly reports
  • Submit quality reports as scheduled including but not limited to daily, weekly, monthly etc.
  • Carryout any other duties as outlined by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Experience and Desired Attributes

  • BSc / HND in related Field with Proven experience in similar function desirable.
  • Experience in Gender Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS) and case management
  • Two years and above experience in similar position or related
  • Flexible and willing to work in rural communities especially field based
  • Attended trainings on GBV and is aware of protection issues.
  • Strong knowledge of gender and global development issues, preferably with understanding of USAID approach to gender quality and gender-based violence.
  • A personal commitment to gender equality
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with all staff and key stakeholders externally.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation, including relevant staff working SACHI.
  • Computer literate especially micro soft work, excel database and power point. Knowledge of other software an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to take initiative not only in identifying problems but also in suggesting and implementing solutions
  • Prior experience working in the field of gender related projects with strong technical capacity and practical experience in designing and implementing gender sensitive development programs
  • Strong understanding of inclusion and mainstreaming issues and approaches
  • Familiarity with local context
  • Experience in working with high level counterparts and engaging with Government officials and other development partners.
  • Previous work experience working in CBO / USAID funded projects is considered as advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to deal with project implementation; Sound and proven management skills and ability to work inclusively and collaboratively.
  • Strong writing skills, both for technical and program reports.
