Job Title: Fleet Director

Location: Nigeria

Job Summary

• The Fleet Director provides strategic leadership and unified oversight of the company’s Marine and Technical Operations functions, ensuring that every vessel in the fleet remains safe, seaworthy, and fully compliant with Client, Class, Flag State and Statutory requirements.
• Directing and developing the Marine Superintendent and Technical Superintendent, the Fleet Director brings navigational safety, vessel security, technical maintenance, dry-docking, budget management and regulatory compliance together under one integrated fleet strategy.
• The role is accountable for fleet-wide operational readiness, continuous reduction of the annual maintenance budget, and the overall commercial and technical performance of the fleet, while acting as the senior point of escalation for clients, regulators, host communities and executive management on all fleet-related matters.

• Experience Managing the different types of vessels which are AHTS, MPSV, SCVs

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction, leadership, coaching and performance management to the Marine Superintendent, Technical Superintendent and their respective teams.
• Align navigational safety, marine operations, technical maintenance and dry-dock strategies into a single, integrated fleet management plan.
• Ensure the fleet meets Class, Flag State, Marine, Charterer’s and other statutory requirements at all times, and oversee planning of Class surveys and inspections.
• Ensure fleet-wide compliance with client operational directives (speed, patrol pattern, fuel consumption, navigational and equipment usage) using available monitoring tools (AIS, eFMS, etc.).
• Own the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) strategy, ensuring maintenance jobs are properly logged, tracked and closed out across the fleet.
• Lead the development, approval and monitoring of the annual fleet maintenance budget, driving a continuous, sustainable reduction in maintenance spend.
• Approve comprehensive dry-dock scopes and schedules, source and endorse qualified dry-dock vendors, and ensure critical spares and parts are available prior to commencement.
• Ensure deployment requests and payments to relevant naval authorities are processed in a timely manner to guarantee 100% security personnel availability.
• Ensure timely distribution and execution of the fleet Port Call calendar and associated activity plans across all stakeholders.
• Act as the senior escalation point for client enquiries during port calls and other operational matters, ensuring vessels return to work within agreed timelines.

Requirements
Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Studies or a related field.
• A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the marine/offshore shipping industry, including significant experience in both marine and technical superintendency, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or fleet management role.
• Demonstrated track record of successfully directing both marine operations and technical/maintenance functions across a multi-vessel fleet.
• Prior experience managing dry-docking programmes, maintenance budgets and regulatory/Class compliance at a fleet-wide level.
• Extensive knowledge of the marine, tugboat, oil transportation and shipping industry, including Class, Flag State and statutory requirements.
• Strong knowledge of vessel maintenance systems, planned maintenance strategy and dry-docking processes.
• Proven strategic and budgetary management skills, with the ability to deliver continuous cost efficiency without compromising safety or compliance.
• Strong people-leadership skills, with the ability to lead, develop and hold accountable superintendents, technical managers and vessel crews.
• Ability to make sound decisions and give clear direction under pressure to facilitate prompt service delivery.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills across clients, regulators, naval authorities, host communities and executive management.
• Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions, and to develop and implement appropriate procedures and controls.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
• Must be physically fit enough to board vessels, barges and tugs at sea and in port.
• Willingness to travel extensively, including to out ports and offshore locations.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree or MBA is an advantage.
• CoC Master Unlimited and/or Chief Engineer Unlimited (or equivalent marine/technical qualification) strongly preferred.
