Job Title: Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) Trainer

Locations: Adamawa, Bauchi and Sokoto
Slots: 21 (7 for each states)

Job Description

  • The EGRA Trainer will be responsible for preparing and training data collectors to administer the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) accurately and effectively.
  • The Trainer will deliver comprehensive training sessions, ensuring that all  data collectors are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their roles.
  • The Trainer will also provide ongoing support and guidance throughout the data collection process.

Objectives of the Assessment

  • Ensure that all data collectors are thoroughly trained in the EGRA protocols, tools, and ethical guidelines.
  • Promote high standards of data collection by ensuring that data collectors are proficient in administering the EGRA.
  • Provide continuous support to data collectors during the fieldwork to address any challenges and ensure consistent application of the assessment protocols.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive training curriculum and materials based on the EGRA protocols.
  • Customize training sessions to address the specific needs and contexts of the data collectors.
  • Conduct in-person for data collectors, covering all aspects of the EGRA, including the purpose of the assessment, data collection techniques, and ethical considerations.
  • Use interactive methods, such as role-playing and mock assessments, to ensure data collectors fully understand the procedures.
  • Assess the competence of data collectors through practical exercises and evaluations.
  • Certify data collectors who demonstrate the required proficiency in administering the EGRA.
  •  Provide real-time support to data collectors during the data collection period, addressing any issues or questions that arise.
  • Conduct spot checks or field visits to observe data collectors in action and ensure adherence to the training provided.
  • Collect feedback from data collectors regarding the training and use this information to make improvements to future training sessions.
  •  Report to the Project Manager on the progress of the training and any areas that need further attention.

Deliverables:

  • Develop and submit a comprehensive training curriculum and supporting materials, including manuals, presentations, and assessment tools.
  • Deliver successful training sessions to all data collectors, ensuring each participant is prepared to administer the EGRA.
  • Provide certification to data collectors who meet the required standards for EGRA administration.
  • Submit reports on the support provided to data collectors during the fieldwork, including any challenges encountered and how they were addressed.
  • Compile a final report summarizing the training process, participant evaluations, and recommendations for future training sessions.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in education, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in training and capacity-building, preferably in educational assessments or similar projects.
  •  Prior experience with facilitating EGRA or similar literacy assessments is highly desirable.
  • Strong training and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate adult learners.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in the local language(s).
  • Ability to design and adapt training materials to suit different learning styles and contexts.
  • Willingness to travel to training locations and provide ongoing support during the data collection period.

Total Data Collectors required per State:

  • Adamawa – 7
  • Bauchi – 7
  • Sokoto – 7

Others:

  • The Data Collectors will attend training for 5 days and work for a total of 10 days to cover the sampled schools and communities.
