Job Title: Driver & Logistics Assistant

Job Summary

  • As a member of the EngenderHealth team in Nigeria, the Driver will be actively responsible for the driving, and total maintenance of the official project vehicle assigned to him.
  • They will assist the office in providing support in moving staff to program venues and other locations within the program states and beyond.
  • They will also provide logistics support to the project where necessary.

Responsibilities
The role of the driver is to provide transportation and logistics support to the project within Nigeria. They will be responsible for the following:

  • Collect and deliver mail and other types of correspondence, when required and ensure the signing of delivery slips.
  • Facilitate movement to different project sites.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always fueled and ready for use.
  • Ensure that the vehicle assigned is clean and well maintained.
  • Ensure that all vehicle journeys are recorded in the logbook at the start and completion of the journey in accordance with state and federal law, as well as Organization policy.
  • Be responsible for the availability, authenticity, accuracy, and validity of the particulars of the assigned vehicle.
  • Observing the road and traffic laws and regulations of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  • Ensure that the keys and vehicle documents are kept in a secure place when the vehicle is not in use.
  • Keep mileage records and repair records up-to-date and arrange for vehicle repairs as needed.
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, maintenance, oil changes, etc.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of any anomalies observed in the use of the vehicle.
  • Ensure responsibility for the safety and security of all passengers in the vehicle.
  • Confirm availability of all the required license documents and supplies including vehicle logs, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts before the start of each trip.
  • Transport materials, equipment and work tools as required.
  • Carry out, receive, package, and distribute materials/equipment in support of programs activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • SSCE / GCE ordinary level, NECO or any other evidence of successful completion of secondary school education.
  • At least three years’ experience driving in a corporate environment.
  • Experience working with USAID or similar organization will be a strong advantage.
  • Be computer literate.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Attended defensive training courses with verifiable certificate.
  • Excellent knowledge of the geography and roads network in the location.
  • Willingness and ability to work long hours when necessary.
  • Willingness and ability to travel at short notice.

Preferred Skills, Abilities and Functions:

  • Similar experience in an NGO is a major asset.
  • Knowledge of First Aid will be a strong advantage.
  • Dress smartly and be very polite.

Others:

  • All vehicles must be used for official assignments ONLY and on no account, should the vehicle be diverted for personal use while on official assignment.
  • All accidents, however small, must be reported immediately to the Procurement and Admin Manager, accident report is filled immediately, and the accident reported to the police as soon as possible.
  • The use of mobile phones while driving is not allowed. However, if it is an urgent call, you may first request to park in a safe place before picking the call.

Remuneration
$8,000 – $12,000 Annually.
