Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa) is a Non-governmental, Non-for profit humanitarian/Developmental organization which started in 2014. We deliver assistance to affected populations before, during and after crisis situations. GHIV Africa was founded to mitigate the health deficit in Africa and to provide all forms of assistance leading to improved quality of life.

The organization is equally poised to support the delivery of healthcare services at the doorsteps of every African village by bridging the gap between primary health care delivery and tertiary health care services through a robust referral system. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Disability Focal Person Assistant

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Department: Programming
Reporting: Education Officer

Job Summary

  • In order to further strengthen GHIV Africa’s position as a disability-led organization, this position is to ensure GHIV Africa’s programs are disability-inclusive and the implementations are disability-integrated and innovative targeting people with disability.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services to beneficiaries with disabilities so that they can actively participate in and benefit from the project intervention and wider community development interventions.
  • Map disability organizations and connect GHIV Africa’s beneficiaries to supportive equipment/devices that facilitate their active participation in GHIV Africa’s projects.
  • Conduct mapping exercises at project sites to identify people with disabilities who can participate in the projects.
  • Provide day-to-day life skills training in addition to literacy and numeracy skills training, with the goal of enabling learners with disabilities to accept their impairments and develop self-esteem and self-confidence.
  • Ensure that people with disabilities and women are equally and actively involved in the programs/projects.
  • Provide the necessary technical assistance to project staff, community volunteers, and other local staff in order to effectively integrate disability into any project activity.
  • Professional assistance and capacity building for volunteers on all GHIV Africa projects.
  • The ALP curriculum, training manual, and checklists take into account disability, gender, the environment, and the marginalized community in both refugee and host community settings.
  • Coordinate the targeting of ALP learners with the education officer to ensure that people with disabilities are targeted for the program.
  • Prepare for and provide advice on learner testing, including the design of a final exam for people with disabilities.
  • Conduct training on government structure at all levels and non-government disability inclusion issues.
  • Coach peer facilitators on weekly, monthly, quarterly, and biannual lesson planning.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions/workshops for authorities and other stakeholders on disability mainstreaming in humanitarian projects.
  • Provide stakeholders with on-the-ground technical assistance in mainstreaming disabilities into their projects and programs.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (40%)

  • Gather and dissect information utilizing normalized devices planned M&E apparatuses and structures on students’ presentation and educators’ abilities and capabilities, the recuperation pace of MAM, and SAM youngsters, project progress, and the level of crippled recipients signed up for the execution, as well as on different tasks carrying out by GHIV Africa.
  • Occasionally investigates projects progress towards project results and results.
  • Record and examine the illustrations learned and conceivable remedial activities.
  • Gather investigation and report sex, inability age, level, and isolated direction.
  • Screen the exhibition and abilities of educators/nearby staff.
  • Screen and assess the advancement of students overall and students with a handicap in training.
  • Follow upon-up and uphold learning gatherings.
  • Foster instruments and prepare materials for inability to mainstream instructional meetings/studios.
  • Foster data material on handicaps and references to be utilized for mindfulness bringing up in the GHIV project areas.
  • In a joint effort with the venture officials, foster a data set for people with handicaps for GHIV projects.
  • Archive through pictures and accounts the effect of the GHIV mediation for PWDs on GHIV projects.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Disability Studies, Social Sciences, Education Special needs education, Adult Education / Pedagogy / Curriculum / Psychology / or Community Development.
  • Excellent experience in training, material development, and participatory assessments
  • At least 2 years of professional work experience in fieldwork with conflict-affected communities.
  • Practical experience in mainstreaming work (gender/disability/environment)
  • Previous experiences working with an NGO in the field of disability
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and achieve results.
  • Experience working with non-governmental organizations, local communities, and authorities.
  • Experience in coordinating, facilitating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating education-related/multi-sectoral projects for NGOs in humanitarian settings, preferably Northeast Nigeria (BAY) states.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian principles;
  • Take initiative and is goal-oriented demonstrates abilities to supervise staff;
  • Good communication and writing skills, is adaptable, flexible, and resourceful, able to adopt an organized and methodological approach, sense of confidentiality;
  • Proficient has written and spoken English language skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills;
  • Good team spirit and respect for diversity;
  • Proficiency is in Microsoft Office package.
  • Good on data analysis with information management systems.
  • Training on Project Cycle Management.
  • Proficiency in Kanuri (must be a Kanuri by tribe).
