Job Description


The University of Benin was founded in 1970. It started as an Institute of Technology and was accorded the status of a full-fledged University by National Universities Commission (NUC) on 1st July, 1971. In his Budget Speech in April 1972, the then Military Governor of Mid-Western State, Col. S. O. Ogbemudia (then also Visitor to the University) formally announced the change of the name of the Institute of Technology to the University of Benin. On 1st April, 1975 the University at the request of the State Government, was taken over by the Federal Government and became a Federal University.

The Technical Committee, National Centre for Energy and Environment (NCEE), Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), University of Benin, Benin City,  invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position below which will be vacant upon the expiration of the current tenure:

Job Title: Director, National Centre for Energy and Environment (NCEE)

Location: Benin City, Edo

Qualifications
The person to be appointed Director of the National Centre for Energy and Environment (NCEE), Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), University of Benin, Benin City, must possess the following:

  • Be a holder of Doctorate Degree of at least 10 years in Engineering or Applied Sciences.
  • Be one driven by research in Engineering or Applied Sciences.
  • Understand the contemporary demand of the development of conceptual and operational policy framework for sustainable renewable energy production/ technology transfer.
  • He/She should have a wide teaching/research experience in a university or institution of equivalent status and be capable of giving dynamic leadership to the Centre.
  • Be one with high scholastic and academic credentials who must have accomplishments in academic and/or in public life generally.
  • Command both national and international respect, particularly in the area of specialization, to enhance the good reputation of a research Centre
  • Be morally sound with unassailable integrity, must be free from financial embarrassment/scandal,
  • Be of good health and have pleasant as well as strong personality.
  • Be a person of courage who can take decisions on the merit of facts and principles and not on the basis of pressures from individuals or groups.
  • Not be above 65 years old as at the time of assumption of duty and must be a good family person.
  • Be information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient.

Terms and Conditions of Service

  • The Technical Committee notes that the Director would hold office for a single term of four (4) years only on such terms and conditions as may be specified in his/her letter of appointment.
