Job Description


The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria was established through an agreement dated 21st August 1998 signed between the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria and Adamawa State Government to take over the then Yola Specialist Hospital, Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. Clinical Services commenced on 15th May 1999. However, the then Civilian Government in the State decided to repossess the Specialist Hospital so that it could have a secondary healthcare facility in the state capital. Thus, it was decided that the Centre should be relocated to the present site in the premises of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Yola, along Lamido Zubairu Way, Yola-Town.

It is a 330-bed hospital that provides tertiary healthcare service to people from Adamawa, parts of Taraba, Gombe and Borno states in addition to those coming from the neighbouring republic of Cameroun. Within the limits of available resources, the facility has been able to provide a high standard of healthcare to its teeming clients. In fact, with the ongoing insurgency in Northeastern Nigeria, all the casualties of our armed forces personnel and civilians are promptly and adequately catered for in the centre. The Federal Medical Centre, Yola covers an initial total landmass of 23.84 hectares and in 2016 His excellency the Adamawa state Governor gave us an additional land of 15.75 hectares from the neighbouring Technical College making a total of 39.59 hectares.

Job Title: Director of Administration / Head of Administration

Location: Hong, Adamawa
Employment type: Full time

Responsibilities

  • The Director of Administration shall be responsible to the Medical Director/ CE for the day-to-day general administration of the Hospital.
  • He shall be the Chief Administrative Adviser to the Medical Director/CE and Secretary to the Board of Management.

In addition, the Director of Administration shall:

  • Take charge of the department responsible for administration
  • Participate in formulation, exclusion and review of policies as directed by the Medical Director and the Board,
  • Coordinate the activities of supporting departments in the Hospital Conducts the correspondence of the Board and keep the records of the Hospital
  • Perform such other functions as the Board or Medical Director/CE, may from time to time assign to him/her.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidates must possess a First Degree in either Hospital / Health Services Management or Humanities or Social Science or its equivalent.
  • Fellow or associate membership of the Institute of Health Administrators of Nigeria (ISHAN) or any other relevant professional certificates is an added advantage.
  • Candidates must not have less than (20) years of post- working experience in government establishment
  • Possession of Master’ Degree or any other relevant higher degree will be an added advantage.
  • Candidates must not be below the rank of Assistant Director or its equivalent in government establishment.
  • Working experience in Hospital or health care delivery organization is an added advantage.
  • Candidate must be ICT compliant.

Tenure

  • The Director of Administration shall hold office effective from the date of appointment inclusive of any period previously served in any organization in the public service, provided the officer does not attain the mandatory retirement age of Sixty (60) years or Thirty-five (35) years of service which comes first and on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.

Salary and Conditions of Services
Salary and conditions of service shall be in accordance with Public Service salary structure for this category of officers.
