We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Deputy Director of Advocacy, Campaign, Communication and Media (ACCM)

Location: Abuja

Staff reporting to this post: Advocacy, Campaign and Policy Managers; Advocacy and Campaign Officer/Intern

Role Dimensions

  • The role holder will be expected to make regular visits to the field to support with volunteer training and orientation programs.
  • S/he will also be responsible for engaging with humanitarian actors in Nigeria, participate in humanitarian advocacy working groups, design and implement effective humanitarian advocacy, campaign and policy strategy and plan for SCI Nigeria.
  • S/he will liaise and work closely with NBD/MEAL/PDQ Unit with an aim to support fundraising and proposal development processes.

Key Areas of Accountability
The key areas of accountability for the Deputy Director, ACCM/Humanitarian, includes supporting the ACCM Director and contributes to:

  • Development of an organizational culture that promotes accountability, responsibility, transparency, teamwork, collaboration, integrity and high performance; and encourages a team culture of learning, creativity and innovation, and supports staff to deliver outstanding results for children.
  • Ensuring Nigeria CO ACCM function complies with all Save the Children Policies, Essential Standards, and KPIs – and supports the visibility of our impact.
  • Ensuring that all required support is provided promptly during emergencies, working closely with the humanitarian response team.
  • Work with SC Members and CO staff, to seek appropriate resourcing for our humanitarian advocacy and campaign strategies, including working with PDQ to ensure that ACCM related project goals, objectives, activities and staff level of efforts etc are consistently integrated into new business development opportunities.
  • Timely delivery of agreed deliverables assigned by the ACCM Director.

Advocacy, Campaign, Policy and Influencing/Humanitarian:

  • Lead the development and implementation of an overarching CO humanitarian advocacy strategy and plan targeting local, national, regional and international decision makers as relevant.
  • Work with thematic leads, and other program staff, to develop advocacy and campaign objectives, in line with the Country Strategy Plan, and ensure the CO has advocacy messages for thematic and strategic areas (e.g. children affected by humanitarian situations etc.).
  • Oversee the development of an ambitious national campaign strategy which amplifies the voices of children.
  • Ensure that Save the Children receives national recognition for achieving proven and innovative national impact with a focus on emergency and humanitarian response programs.
  • Take the lead on advocacy for specific humanitarian responses, participate in relevant stakeholder meetings and working in coalitions as appropriate.
  • Manage the advocacy, campaign, and policy team, ensuring that each individual understands their roles and responsibilities in delivering the overall objectives.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing within the advocacy, campaign, policy and influencing team and the availability of ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Represent the ACCM Director and SCI Nigeria whenever tasked or assigned to do so.
  • The Deputy Director, ACCM/Humanitarian, shall perform any other tasks as assigned by the line manager.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • S/he will make sure that ACCM activities at the State and National level will make a regular risk analysis and mitigation plan when engaging children and are reviewed and signed off by national Safeguarding Manager.
  • S/he will ensure that all relevant safeguarding process, procedures and good practice must be applied in all ACCM activities.
  • S/he will ensure that the use of images, data and information of children and adults at risk used for media, advocacy, campaigns, fundraising, marketing and other purposes meet ethical standards.
  • S/he will ensure that risks and mitigation measures must be in place before gathering content and images of children and vulnerable adults to use in media, communications and marketing materials/events, and the design and implementation of advocacy and campaign activities. This includes putting measures in place to ensure informed consent and assent of children and adults and adherence to the sign off process.

Qualifications and Experience
Required

  • University degree in management, leadership, law, social science, human rights, humanitarian law, policy and influencing or an area of relevant social development;
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrated experience in progressively responsible positions in advocacy, influencing, human rights law, campaigns, social protection;
  • Proven experience in successfully developing and implementing humanitarian advocacy, campaign and influencing strategies in humanitarian response areas in Nigerian context;
  • Demonstrable track record of leading change, resulting in significant results for the organization and their stakeholders;
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate complex issues in a compelling way for a variety of audiences;
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching;
  • Experience of managing a team and building personal networks, resulting in significant new opportunities for the organization;
  • Commitment to Save the Children values.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in policy, human  rights, humanitarian law, child rights, emergency response, social and development studies and/or in any other relevant fields of study;
  • Excellent understanding of the Nigerian political context and policymaking processes.
