Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) was established in 2018 as a registered NGO with Head Office in Maiduguri – Borno State, with offices across Yobe and Adamawa state. We have been visible in Borno Adamawa and Yobe states implementing projects in Education, Protection (Child /GBV), WaSH, Nutrition, Empowerment/Livelihood, Governance, and Peace Building. Our approach is aligned with our mission to enhance service delivery and empower citizens, through our Humanitarian, Development, and peace-building nexus (HDP).

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Child Protection Officer

Location: Ngala and Kaga LGAs – Borno
Employment Type: Contract (6 Months)
Reporting to: Child Protection Coordinator

Purpose of the Role

  • The Child Protection Officer will provide overall technical and operational leadership for the implementation of the CP component of the NHF Reserve Allocation 2026 project in Ngala LGA.
  • The CP Officer is responsible for ensuring the quality, timeliness and accountability of all CP outputs across case management, CFS/MHPSS, community engagement and FGD activities, and will directly supervise field-level CP staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and day-to-day management of all CP project activities across Outputs 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 in Ngala and Kaga LGAs.
  • Supervise, mentor and support caseworkers, the MHPSS Assistant, Community Mobilisation and Engagement Assistant, CFS Facilitators and CP Community Volunteers.
  • Lead beneficiary identification, registration and case management processes, including support for UASC, CAAFG and children with specific protection needs.
  • Ensure the establishment, operationalisation and quality of child-friendly spaces (CFS) delivering structured PSS, PFA, recreational activities and caregiver engagement sessions.
  • Coordinate and oversee the conduct of focus group discussions (FGDs) for high-risk area mapping and CP risk analysis, ensuring safe, age- and gender-disaggregated participation.
  • Lead community mobilisation and engagement activities, including CP awareness, risk communication and community-based child protection committee (CBCPC) formation and strengthening.
  • Ensure all programme data is accurately collected, disaggregated by sex, age and disability status, and submitted in line with NHF reporting requirements.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits, protection monitoring and data quality checks.
  • Represent CATAI in CP cluster coordination meetings at LGA and state level.
  • Ensure full compliance with PSEA policy, child safeguarding standards and organisational SOPs.
  • Prepare monthly activity reports, contribute to mid-term and end-of-project evaluations, and support baseline and endline assessments.
  • Liaise with other sectors (WASH, Education, Health) to ensure effective referral pathways and integrated service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, Development Studies or a related field. A postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in child protection programming in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Proven experience in case management, MHPSS, CFS management and community-based CP approaches.
  • Sound understanding of the NHF, CP cluster standards and Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (CPMS).
  • Experience supervising field teams in complex, insecure environments.
  • Strong report writing, data management and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Hausa or Kanuri is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to use Primero’s CPIMS+, manage work flow and supervise case workers’ input via CPIMS+
