Job Title: Aquaculture Academy Master Trainer

Location: Ilorin, Kwara
Employment Type: Full-time, Onsite

Job Purpose

• The Master Trainers will deliver high-quality classroom and practical instruction for the ACE Academy, with each trainer serving as a subject-matter specialist in an assigned aquaculture discipline.
• The role will combine strong academic knowledge with relevant field experience to build the practical capability of employees, farmers, customers and other approved learners.
• Master Trainers will develop learning content, facilitate engaging sessions, conduct demonstrations, assess learner competence and support the continuous improvement of ACE training programmes.

Key Responsibilities
Classroom and Practical Instruction:

• Deliver structured classroom, field and practical training in the assigned area of specialisation.
• Explain technical concepts in clear, practical language suited to different learner groups.
• Use demonstrations, exercises, case studies, farm observations and problem-solving activities to strengthen
• learning.
• Facilitate learner participation, questions and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
• Ensure training delivery follows the approved timetable, curriculum and ACE standards.

Technical Specialisation:

• Serve as the recognised trainer in one or more approved disciplines: Water Quality; Nutrition & Feed Management;
• Health & Biosecurity; Farm Operations; or Hatchery.
• Maintain current technical knowledge and connect academic principles with practical field application.
• Provide evidence-based guidance within the trainer’s area of expertise.
• Demonstrate correct procedures, equipment use, monitoring practices and operational controls.
• Escalate technical questions or risks outside the trainer’s approved scope to the appropriate ACE specialist.

Curriculum and Content Development:

• Develop and update lesson plans, presentations, facilitator guides, participant manuals, practical exercises and
• assessments.
• Work with the Academy Lead and ACE technical specialists to align content with programme objectives and
• approved practices.
• Convert research findings, operational lessons and field experience into relevant learning resources.
• Ensure materials are technically accurate, well structured and suitable for the target audience.
• Maintain controlled versions of materials and submit updates for review and approval.

Learner Assessment and Support:

• Conduct pre-course, formative, practical and post-course assessments as required.
• Observe learner performance and provide constructive, specific and practical feedback.
• Identify learners requiring additional support and recommend coaching or remedial activities.
• Maintain accurate assessment, attendance and learner-performance records.
• Support follow-up activities that encourage application of learning in farms and workplaces.

Training Preparation and Coordination:

• Review participant profiles, learning objectives, schedules and logistical requirements before each programme.
• Confirm the readiness of classrooms, demonstration areas, equipment, samples, protective equipment andlearning materials.
• Coordinate with the Academy Lead, programme administrators and other facilitators.
• Ensure practical sessions are appropriately sequenced and do not disrupt ACE operations.
• Report delivery risks, resource gaps and required changes promptly.

Safety, Biosecurity and Learning Discipline:

• Apply ACE safety and biosecurity requirements during classroom, farm, hatchery and laboratory activities.
• Provide relevant safety briefings and verify appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
• Ensure demonstrations and practical activities protect learners, fish health, equipment and facilities.
• Maintain professional classroom discipline and respectful learning practices.
• Report incidents, unsafe conditions or biosecurity breaches immediately.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting:

• Collect learner feedback and review assessment outcomes to evaluate training effectiveness.
• Prepare concise post-programme reports covering delivery, participation, results, issues and recommendations.
• Track recurring learner questions and capability gaps to inform programme improvements.
• Support the Academy Lead in measuring knowledge transfer and practical application.
• Maintain complete and timely records for all assigned programmes.

Stakeholder Engagement and Continuous Improvement:

• Collaborate with ACE farm, hatchery, broodstock, veterinary, laboratory and research teams.
• Participate in trainer calibration sessions to ensure consistent content and assessment standards.
• Support approved field visits, farmer clinics, demonstrations and technical outreach activities.
• Share field insights that may inform research, operational improvements and future learning needs.
• Continuously improve facilitation methods, learning resources and practical demonstrations.

Specialisation Profiles
Water Quality:

• Water chemistry and water-quality parameters
• Sampling, testing, interpretation and corrective actions
• Water-management practices for farms, hatcheries and nurseries.

Nutrition & Feed Management:

• Fish nutritional requirements and feed selection
• Feeding strategies, feed storage and feed-conversion management
• Monitoring feeding response, growth and production performance.

Health & Biosecurity:

• Fish-health observation and disease-prevention principles
• Farm and hatchery biosecurity, hygiene and sanitation
• Early warning signs, escalation and responsible health management.

Farm Operations:

• Production planning, stocking, grading and routine husbandry
• Record keeping, cost awareness and operational controls
• Pond or tank management, harvest planning and farm productivity

Hatchery:

• Broodstock preparation, breeding and spawning principles
• Egg handling, incubation, hatching and larval care
• Pre-nursery management, grading, packing and dispatch.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Biological Sciences or another discipline relevant to the assigned specialisation.
• A postgraduate qualification or recognised professional certification in the relevant technical area is an advantage.
• Strong practical field experience in the assigned specialisation within aquaculture, hatchery, fish health, feed
• management, water quality or farm operations.
• Prior experience as a trainer, lecturer, facilitator, technical adviser or coach is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to convert technical knowledge into practical guidance for different learner groups.
• Experience working with farmers, operational teams, students or customer-facing technical programmes is desirable.
