Job Title: AMPP NACE Coating Inspector

Role Objective

• Provide independent quality surveillance and acceptance of protective coating and lining work on tanks, structural steel, piping and associated equipment.

Core Roles and Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and inspect surface preparation (abrasive blasting to specified SSPC/NACE/ISO 8501 standards) and coating application on crude oil storage tank shells, roofs, and internals.
• Conduct environmental monitoring (dew point, relative humidity, substrate temperature) prior to and during coating application to ensure compliance with coating manufacturer datasheets.
• Perform and record dry film thickness (DFT), wet film thickness (WFT), holiday/spark testing, and adhesion testing (pull-off tests) on completed coating systems.
• Review and approve coating material submittals, batch certificates, and manufacturer technical data sheets prior to procurement and application.
• Inspect and certify cathodic protection system installation/tie-ins on tank floors as a complementary corrosion control measure.
• Prepare daily coating inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and final coating inspection/handover dossiers.
• Enforce strict QA/QC hold points during surface preparation and coating application, halting work where environmental or substrate conditions fall outside specification.
• Coordinate coating repair scope with the Metallurgist/Materials Engineer where coating failure is linked to underlying corrosion or material defects.

Qualifications and Requirements
Given the corrosive marine/offshore environment at Delta, coating failure directly threatens tank integrity — certification requirements are set at the highest tier.

• HND/B.Sc. in Chemical, Materials, Corrosion, or Mechanical Engineering — candidates without a relevant engineering/science background will only be considered if they hold NACE/AMPP Level 3 (Coating Inspector) certification with a minimum of fifteen (15) years hands-on experience.
• Mandatory, current AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 certification at minimum; Level 3 (Certified Coating Inspector – CCI) is strongly preferred and will be scored significantly higher than Level 2 applicants.
• Ten (10) years of hands-on coating inspection experience specifically on crude oil storage tanks or marine/offshore structures — general structural steel/pipeline coating experience without tank-specific exposure will not fully satisfy this requirement.
• Demonstrated, verifiable experience with internal tank lining systems (e.g., epoxy phenolic, glass-flake, novolac systems) for crude service, including confined space application oversight — this must be evidenced through project reference letters, not self-declaration.
• Proficiency with the full suite of inspection instrumentation (DFT gauges, holiday detectors up to and beyond 20kV wet-sponge/high-voltage spark testing, pull-off adhesion testers, psychrometers) demonstrated via a practical instrument-use assessment at interview.
• Working knowledge of ISO 8501-1 visual standards and SSPC-SP surface preparation standards sufficient to independently adjudicate surface preparation quality disputes on-site without supervisory escalation.
• Minimum four (4) years offshore/marine terminal-specific coating inspection experience, with documented exposure to confined space coating inspection (tank interiors) under a certified confined space entry permit system.
• Valid BOSIET/HUET, confined space entry & rescue certification, offshore medical fitness certificate, and full physical capability to enter and inspect tank interiors under permit.
• Must pass a hands-on practical assessment involving live DFT/holiday testing and coating defect identification during the selection process.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Qualifications and professional certifications must be issued by recognised bodies, current where applicable, and independently verifiable. Expired, unverifiable or attendance-only certificates will not satisfy a mandatory requirement.
• Candidates must demonstrate recent experience on comparable oil and gas projects. Generic construction experience without direct tank, terminal, refinery, process-plant or offshore exposure will not be accepted.
• Candidates must be able to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, permits, risk assessments and applicable codes, and must produce clear technical reports in English.
• Candidates must demonstrate strong process-safety awareness, stop-work discipline, quality ownership and effective collaboration in a live brownfield environment.
• All offshore survival, medical and safety credentials specified for the role must be valid before mobilisation. Any offer remains conditional upon medical fitness, background checks and client approval.
