We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Agricultural Economist

Location: Kogi

Job Summary

  • The Agricultural Economist will be responsible for conducting economic research and analysis related to agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural development.
  • The role involves applying economic principles to help improve agricultural productivity, sustainability, and profitability.
  • The Agricultural Economist will support policy development, project planning, agribusiness strategy, and investment decision-making through rigorous economic evaluation and data-driven recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct economic analysis of agricultural production, market trends, value chains, and rural development.
  • Develop and apply models to assess the impact of agricultural policies, pricing structures, and subsidies.
  • Evaluate the economic viability of agricultural projects and agribusiness investments.
  • Analyze supply and demand trends for agricultural products at local, national, and international levels.
  • Monitor and interpret economic data, market conditions, and sectoral reports to support strategic planning.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of agricultural development programs and projects.
  • Provide technical input into feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis, and economic impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with agronomists, policymakers, extension officers, and stakeholders to align economic insights with practical field realities.
  • Prepare reports, briefing papers, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support grant proposals and donor reporting with economic justifications and value-for-money assessments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or a related
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural economic research, policy analysis, or project evaluation.
  • Proven experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative research in the agriculture sector.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural markets, rural development, and food security issues.
  • Familiarity with statistical software and economic modeling tools.
  • Experience working with government agencies, development partners, or agribusiness firms is an advantage.
