Job Title: Accountant

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Overview

  • The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, producing detailed financial reports, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting budgeting and cash flow management.
  • The role demands a high level of precision and the use of modern accounting tools to deliver actionable insights that inform business strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Update and reconcile general ledgers, journals, and sub-ledgers on a regular basis.
  • Implement systematic checks to ensure all financial entries are accurate and complete.
  • Maintain robust documentation for all financial transactions, making it easy to audit or reference as needed.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that comply with statutory and internal standards.
  • Compare actual figures against budgets and forecasts to identify trends, anomalies, or opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Create custom reports tailored for different managerial levels, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of taxes (VAT, PAYE, etc.) in accordance with Nigerian laws.
  • Serve as the point of contact for tax audits, clarifications, and updates from tax authorities.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and adjust procedures to maintain compliance.
  • Manage employee payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy in wages, deductions, and benefits.
  • Regularly reconcile bank statements with internal records to pinpoint and resolve discrepancies.
  • Track daily cash inflows and outflows, ensuring optimal liquidity.
  • Prepare for and support both internal and external audits through comprehensive record-keeping and clear process documentation.
  • Identify potential financial risks and recommend control improvements.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Collaborate in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, incorporating business trends and market conditions.
  • Provide insightful analyses that support strategic decision-making and operational improvements.
  • Work closely with other departments to align financial data with overall business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • ACCA certification is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliation.
  • Ability to manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of tax laws, financial regulations, and audit procedures.
  • Experience in filing tax returns, preparing audit reports, and ensuring statutory compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail with high accuracy in financial data management.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights for business decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Salary
N200,000 – N350,000 per month.
