How long have you been job searching? Does the idea of getting a job seem almost impossible?

In as much as Job searching can be very frustrating and demotivating, our job searching skills are what sometimes fail us.

According to Justus Ng’etich, a Recruitment Manager at Corporate Staffing Services, the most efficient job searching skill is the proactive job search. This is because it shows you are passionate about getting the job.

Are you almost giving up on your job search? Here are a few things you would want to consider doing before losing all hope.

Job Searching Skills to Adapt

1. Indiscriminately apply for  jobs you qualify for
Most of us search for a job by responding only to job postings that we find interesting. When you find that job that fits your qualifications, you should apply for it no matter how boring it seems. Avoid being a choosy job seeker,be willing to start from somewhere.

2. Get out of your comfort Zone
Are you that kind of a person who just sits at home sending online applications? Get up,go out and drop your CVs in person to all the relevant places. There is power in doing the hustle. You never know when someone will urgently need to hire and you will be right there!

3. Have a career focus
Do not be the kind of a person who applies for an accounting job today and a media job tomorrow. Pick a job that you are passionate about and do lots of research on it and on companies that mostly employ for your particular job. This will always keep you up to date on available vacancies.

4. Be persistent

Just because you already dropped your CV at an office and they told you to wait does not stop you from dropping your CV again and again. It sounds annoying but eventually, someone is bound to notice that you are making an effort.

5. Network
Once you have identified the industry/company you want to work in, start looking for people who work there. This will put you at the forefront of any important information that you may need to know. The people you interact with may also be the ones to put in a good word for you in the likelihood the company is hiring.

Proactive job seeking takes a lot of discipline. Set out to achieve at least two goals per week. All the best in your search.
