Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. Médecins Sans Frontières provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict. They do so irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Data Processing Officer

Location: Kebbi
Contract Period: Definite (6 Months)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carrying out medical data collection and entry activities into the mission database recording all relevant clinical and demographic data on patients and ensuring data quality/reliability, according to MSF protocols and maintaining confidentiality while producing the appropriate, updated documents for the medical team in order to support decision making processes

Accountabilities

  • Performing data entry of all epidemiological information into select databases program and creating appropriate reports, providing data for project development purposes.
  • Ensuring that all data entered has been authorized and that appropriate documentation has been received (patient records, treatment monitoring, etc.). Ensuring that all data entry processes occur in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensuring all data collected and entered to databases is consistently accurate and complete. Being responsible for ensuring that quality control queries of the database are followed up, ensuring identification of data entry errors and corrections. Immediately reporting to the supervisor, any anomalies in the database
  • Filing documents according to MSF standards
  • Communicating regularly with the HCW’s, assisting in the (re)training when necessary, on proper registration of patients, proper filling of the various forms, clarifying queries, obtaining missing information and correcting errors, ensuring they have ongoing sufficient supplies of necessary hardcopy data collection forms
  • Assisting in the compilation and preparation of regular reports and providing detailed information to medical and laboratory teams (weekly, monthly, according to patient treatment requirements).

Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Ensure that all databases are updated on a weekly bases and are diligently checked for errors (redundant, incomplete, and incorrect data). Responsibilities include data cleaning and quality control.
  • Ensure that all units (ATFC/ITFC) have correct and sufficient hard copies data collection forms/registers
  • On a weekly, monthly, quaterly bases, consolidate and aggregate all data collected in Maiyama ITFC and ATFC locations
  • Provide PMR and Mission Epidemiologist with weekly updated database to allow for necessary analyses
  • Establish a connection with State DSNO so that notifiable disease can be reported on a monthly bases. If the notifiable disease is required to be reported on a daily basis, that must also be done so accordingly
  • ATFC surviellance – encode malnutrition tally sheet onto database every week
  • Ensure that patient files are stored in an archive that adheres to MSF and Nigeria requirements

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications
Education:

  • Essential, higher education with proven computer literacy
  • Degree in Information and Technology (IT) or mathematics field, desirable

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in data entry/analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel databases and MS Office (Outlook, Word)
  • Previous experience with TB and/or HIV information management will be an asset
  • Previous experience with an electronic health system (DHIS2) will be an asset
  • Previous MSF/NGO experience in the Epidemiology/Data team is a strong asset.
