Job Title: Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) Engineer

Location: Ikoyi, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
This role will report to: The Project Manager

Job Description

  • With multiple projects around the southwest region of Nigeria, we are looking for an experienced, certified, and passionate professional to join our team as the MEP Engineer.

Objectives

  • The main objective of this role is to ensure the highest quality of design and delivery of mechanical, electrical and plumbing jobs in both new and existing locations

Major Scope of Coverage:

  • HVAC systems
  • Electrical Power and Lighting;
  • Fire Alarm systems;
  • Energy Management;
  • Plumbing design and installation;
  • Cooking gas appliances / equipment design and installation.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Manage MEP designs and implementation, including HVAC, pumping, Fire Fighting, cooking gas lines and piping systems from initiation through successful closure for new projects and renovations;
  • Carry out design and implementation of all MEP systems on all assigned projects to be handled in-house;
  • Ensure that all building systems are in safe working order and in line with current regulations;
  • Ensure that all certificates of compliance are maintained and up-to-date in accordance with relevant legislation;
  • Analysis of repetitive equipment failures;
  • Manage all phases of all MEP designs and deployment;
  • Review contractor’s installation and method statements;
  • Undertake project snagging and maintain an ongoing list of electrical and mechanical services defect for contractor’s remedial actions;
  • On a spot basis, witness, review and comment on contractors’ testing and commissioning results and advise management accordingly;
  • Prepare site instructions relating to building MEP services as required and issue to PM;
  • Tracking of all Request for Information (RFI), change orders and other pertinent documentation on MEP systems on all projects;
  • Review and propose for management approval all contractors’ operations and maintenance manuals;
  • Manage MEP project closeout, including securing warranties, guarantees, and acceptance of work, sub-contractors and vendor close, final payment and record retention;
  • Ensure that the installation, inspection and testing of all the MEP equipment, fittings and work implemented meets the specification, regulatory and other requirements.
  • Coordinate with other project personnel to ensure that deadlines, procedures, and other project requirements are met.
  • Research and help deploy better MEP systems and methodologies, tools and techniques;
  • Facilitate problem-solving, as may arise, among MEP Subcontractors during construction;
  • Validate design issues related to MEP and suggest alternative solutions;
  • Assist in the receipt and review of MEP submittals;
  • Log and post all MEP changes and as-built information on field drawings;
  • Assist in the scope review, budgeting and justification of MEP change work order;
  • Direct, monitor and control the activities of MEP Subcontractor;
  • Coordination and administration of MEP-related materials, systems and shop drawings submittals;
  • Ensure that MEP Subcontractors provide and adhere to relevant Quality documentation / records;
  • Ensure that MEP Subcontractors adhere to Project safety regulations;
  • Assist head of facilities during annual appraisal of MEP vendors / contractors

Qualifications

  • Mechanical or Electrical University Degree in Engineering
  • Working knowledge of plans, prints, specifications and schematics associated with the trade
  • 5 years of construction experience with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing in a consulting or construction firm
  • Good knowledge of construction procedures and in construction procedures and practices
  • Computer literate
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Attention to details
  • Be proactive and responsive in nature;
  • High problem-solving skills.
