The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Duties

  • As the Financial Specialist, the incumbent is the Senior Foreign Service National (FSN) of the  Section and is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and managing the full range of financial services of various degrees which include budget formulation and execution ($25 million), financial planning and reporting, allowance accounting ($63,9 million) and cashiering.
  • The incumbent covers all aspects of the agencies program, operations and activities including assessment of current financial status, predictions of future needs and capabilities as well as forecasting potential problem areas and shortcoming.
  • The incumbent develops and makes recommendations and/or provides alternative solutions to financial needs and problems that arise.
  • The position entails a high level of supervisory responsibility, and a heavy dependency is placed on the incumbent for the day-to-day operations of the budget activities for the mission.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Budget/Financial Management. Banking, or, Economics is required.
  • Note: NYSC Certificate or Exclusion/Exemption document is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the U.S. Government accounting, budgeting, and financial management system.  In addition, two (2) years of supervisory experience is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Must have detailed understanding of the banking regulations and local laws.

Evaluations:

  • This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.

Language:

  • Fluent Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have strong skills in computer applications, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Must possess ability to solve problems, work independently and delegate work assignments.
  • Must have strong drafting abilities.
  • Must have strong financial analytic background with the ability to interpret financial reports, analyze reports and financial trends, establish or quantitative performance goals, and be familiar with generally accepted accounting principles and practices as used in USG appropriations and allotment accounting.

Agency Benefits:

  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
